Entertaining Your Cat

Entertaining Your Cat

Did you know that cats can get bored? We know, Fluffy seems to enjoy doing as little as possible. However, our furry pals do need entertainment and stimulation. Your pet will feel stressed and unhappy with nothing to do! Read on as a Chico, CA vet discusses keeping your kitty amused.

First and foremost, make sure that your feline pal has plenty of toys. Kitties all have their own unique tastes, so pay attention to what Fluffy seems to like and dislike. Give your pet plenty of playthings she can play with by herself, as well as toys that you can use to play with her. Classic cat toys are fine, but you can also try something more modern, like remote-controlled mouse or an automated laser pointer.

Take a few minutes a day to play with your cat. This will be great for Fluffy physically, as it will help keep her bones and muscles strong. Plus, playing offers your furball beneficial mental stimulation. Kitties have to concentrate to make those tricky jump/pounce moves!

Background Noise

When you leave your furry friend home alone, turn a TV or radio on. The background noise will offer Fluffy mental stimulation. It will also soothe her and help keep her from feeling lonely.

Although our feline friends are much safer staying indoors, they enjoy having plants to sniff at and nibble on. Set out some non-toxic plants for your furball. You can find a full list of good options at the ASPCA website here.

Kitty Adventures

Cats love exploring nooks and crannies. Offer Fluffy things to investigate, like cardboard boxes, paper bags, and newspaper tunnels. For extra purrs, make your kitty a box castle!

Cat TV

Did you know that you can buy or download programs just for Fluffy? Some kitties seem to really enjoy watching shows about mice and birds! (Results may vary.)

A Room With A View

Our feline companions love watching birds and squirrels. Make sure your furry little voyeur has at least one comfy window seat, where she can relax, sunbathe, and spy on local wildlife.

Believe it or not, you can download games for your kitty to play on a phone or tablet. Let Fluffy try her paw at ‘catching’ digital mice or fish!
